Introduction:
Here we will have a look at the basic concepts of Drivers and Devices, and the key aspects thereof.
Driver vs Device:
Let’s first have a simplified distinction between a Driver and a Device.
The Adroit Drivers can be configured from the Adroit Configuration Setup. It is required that the relevant configuration of the drivers is done, prior to the starting of the AS, as well as the scanning process. Driver’s are used for the interfacing of a FED with the SCADA package – for data exchange purposes.
Each communication protocol will have a separate Driver.
On the other hand, a device is a driver instance. Meaning, each FED will have its own Device being setup for interfacing with Adroit. A FED can have more than one device (and driver) for communication with an Adroit SCADA server – for instance if, you want to use one pipe for digital discrete scans and another pipe for analogue scans.
Driver Device Health:
Notice that if once the driver device is created – it will not be health (green). It will be in a yellow state.
Only once the Driver Device is started (From the tag scanning configuration) and at least has one tag scanned to it (also from the tag scanning configuration), will the device turn healthy (Green) – assuming the communication settings on the FED is correct, the interfaces and network settings are correct.
Basic requirements for Driver Device Health
The following settings are the minimum requirements for a driver device to be healthy:
